Methodology is the successor of two journals:

• Metodologia de las Ciencias del Comportamiento and
• Methods of Psychological Research-Online (MPR-Online). Articles published in Methods of Psychological Research-Online can be accessed via PsychArchives.

Methodoloty was launched in 2005 as the official journal of the European Association of Methodology (EAM), founded in 2004 (Ato, M. & Eid, M. 2005. Methodology – A European perspective. Methodology, 1(1), 1. https://doi.org/10.1027/1614-1881.1.1.1). From its start in 2005 unti 2019 Methodology was published by the Hogrefe publishing house as a subscription-based journal. Articles are available via Hogrefe's journal archive..

Since 2020, Methodology is published as an open-access journal in cooperation with the PsychOpen GOLD publishing platform of the Leibniz Institute for Psychology (ZPID).
